Large-scale energy storage for Switzerland: We are building a 65 MWh grid storage system
We are delighted to be taking a significant step in the Swiss energy transition together with Primeo Energie. In Kappel, in the canton of Solothurn, we will install one of the largest battery storage systems in Switzerland with a total capacity of 65 megawatt hours.
Storage system makes electricity more flexible
Primeo Energie will use the stand-alone storage system to make energy more flexible and store electricity temporarily and withdraw it again when it is needed. In this way, the system will help to stabilise the Swiss power grid.

Our contribution to the Swiss energy transition
With this large-scale storage system, we are making a decisive contribution to the implementation of Switzerland’s Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to convert 100 per cent of its energy supply to renewable energies by 2050. Frederik Süllwald, our Head of Global Sales & Key Account Management, explains: ‘Large battery storage systems will play an increasingly important role in stabilising the power grid in the future.’
Functionality and benefits
Our stand-alone storage system will help to
- Store surplus electricity efficiently
- Feed electricity into the grid as required
- Balance out weather-related fluctuations in renewable energy production
- Increase the reliability of the energy supply in Switzerland
-
In the first few years, more than
4000t CO² per year can be saved
Total capacity: 65 MWh
- Outdoor
- Container
«The large-scale system will be used to compensate for weather-related fluctuations in the area’s rapidly growing renewable electricity production. It will, therefore, help secure electricity supply and demonstrates Primeo Energie's commitment to providing effective solutions for a successful energy transformation»
This project consolidates our position as a leading provider of energy storage solutions in the DACH region and actively promotes a more sustainable energy future. Together we are shaping a reliable and green energy future!
