Green data centres: Large-scale storage for Deutsche Telekom
The energy revolution has arrived in the telecommunications sector: Together with PASM Power and Air Solution Management GmbH (PASM), the energy supplier for the Deutsche Telekom Group in Germany, we have equipped three Deutsche Telekom data centres with battery storage systems. While we installed an indoor storage system in Münster, there are outdoor systems in Hanover and Bamberg.
- Primary control power
Generating green electricity
Deutsche Telekom is already focussing on renewable energies and plans to generate 250 gigawatt hours of energy itself using solar and wind power by 2030. The energy transition is increasing the proportion of renewable energies in the electricity grid, making energy generation increasingly volatile. Battery storage systems are needed to ensure that the electricity requirements of the communication networks can be met around the clock.
Sector
Telecommunications
Power
5 MW
Capacity
58 MWh
Primary control power stabilises the power grid
PASM will use the systems for balancing group equalisation and offer them on the market for balancing energy. To this end, we have installed an indoor system with 6.4 MWh in Münster and storage systems with 26 MWh each in Bamberg and Hanover. By providing primary control power in the event of a short-term load change in the electricity grid, our storage systems cushion the associated frequency fluctuations and relieve and support the electricity grid.
Total capacity: 58 MWh (Hanover 1x 26 MWh; Bamberg 1x 26 MWh; Münster 1x 6 MWh;)
- Outdoor & Indoor
- Rack system incl. inverter, transformer and switchgear
The storage market for data centres is growing:
With PASM, we have gained one of the players in the energy supply of telecommunications structures as a partner. The energy transition will significantly increase the demand for energy storage solutions for data centres. We are delighted to be able to contribute to this process with our storage solutions. We would also like to thank PASM for their trust in our products and our expertise.
‘We chose INTILION as a reliable and good partner because the company offers customised solutions and provides both indoor and outdoor systems’
