Energy transition in logistics
INTILION, an energy storage provider based in Paderborn, has equipped DB Schenker, the transport and logistics division of Deutsche Bahn, with energy storage systems on behalf of the Wiesbaden-based company Ampermo. Together with other partners, Ampermo is constructing a comprehensive system consisting of an 835 kWp solar power plant and a high-power charging infrastructure with a capacity of 480 kW. From now on, this system will supply electricity to the logistics company’s electric fleet at the transhipment terminal in Neufahrn, Bavaria. A key component of the charging park is the commercial storage system consisting of eleven INTILION | scaleblocs each with a capacity of 73 kWh.
Grid booster for e-trucks
Many logistics companies are transitioning their truck fleets to electric vehicles and are upgrading transhipment terminals with charging infrastructure accordingly. However, the grid connections are often not designed to handle the high power output required by the charging stations. “Our battery storage systems act as an extension to the grid connection. They provide the necessary additional energy during charging, ensuring that all E-trucks can be charged quickly and efficiently,” explains Manuel Schmidt, Chief Sales Officer at INTILION. The entire system is controlled by an intelligent energy management system. Ampermo serves as the investor, owner, and operator of the facility.
Sustainable freight transport
Road freight transport currently accounts for around one-third of the CO2 emissions in the transport sector. However, due to high acquisition costs and a lack of charging infrastructure, E-trucks have so far been less attractive to haulage companies. The German federal government has also recognised the need for a comprehensive charging infrastructure. With the Master Plan “Ladeinfrastruktur II” (charging infrastructure II), extensive measures have been adopted for E-trucks for the first time. High-speed charging infrastructure for trucks is to be installed at around 350 locations. The initiative, led by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport with support from Autobahn GmbH des Bundes and the National Charging Infrastructure Coordination Centre, was launched in early July.
